A Family Concert With the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows

A family special – come dressed as a sorcerer, a wizard or your favourite magical character to enjoy Dukas’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice made famous by the classic Disney film Fantasia, and be the first to hear a fun new work by emerging composer Holly Harrison who hails from Sydney’s West.

Meet all the instruments of the orchestra in Mussorgsky’s colourful Pictures at an Exhibition, and take up the SSO Fellows’ Artistic Challenge for primary-aged kids (refer to tab).

This concert was made possible by the Crown Resorts Foundation.

Each year, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship program brings together some of the most talented young instrumentalists from throughout Australia for an intensive period of mentoring, workshops and performances. Hear this year’s Fellows play for your entertainment in the intimate space of the Riverside Theatres.

Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition depicts an imaginary tour through an art collection with each short movement representing a different painting by artist Viktor Hartmann, a good friend of Mussorgsky’s.

The SSO Fellows invite primary-aged kids to paint their own pictures inspired by Mussorgsky’s music and enter the ‘Artistic Challenge’. A selection of entries will be transformed into digital images and projected onto large screen while the Fellows perform Pictures at an Exhibition. For information on how to enter, please contact
