Two soulmates. One cage. And the voice between them that refuses to stay silent.

Gabriel and Genevieve are soulmates. They’re also a gay man and a straight woman who can’t stop kissing each other.

They share an apartment, a bed, and a third roommate: Mira, the living embodiment of their merged inner voices. Mira lives in an extravagant dog cage fitted with a mirror, a stripper pole, and a stack of old Princess Diana magazines. She gives terrible advice. She’s also the only one who tells them the truth.

Gabriel was dragged out of his Arab family home at nineteen and hasn’t spoken to his mother since. Genevieve has been in love with him for years and has made peace with it never being reciprocated. What she hasn’t made peace with is her own trauma – the father who brought her lollipops and then took everything else.

When Gabriel’s mother falls ill and Genevieve hides it from him, the lie cracks open everything they’ve been avoiding. His eating disorder. Her childhood abuse. The kiss they shared and pretended didn’t happen. And the question neither of them can answer: If we love each other this much, why isn’t it enough?

As Mira fights to keep control, Gabriel and Genevieve are forced to confront the parts of themselves they’ve been caging for years. Raw, unflinching, and darkly funny, Slurs From The Heart is a play about the messy, impossible love between two people who can’t let go – even when staying together might be destroying them.
