FORM Dance Projects and Riverside present Dance Bites 2020
LEARN THE REPERTOIRE, SEE THE SHOW
Dance Bites is FORM Dance Projects’ curated signature program of dance works produced by some of Australia’s most innovative and exciting independent choreographers and companies. Dance Bites celebrates the diversity of contemporary dance making. Learn the Repertoire, See the Show offers dance students an opportunity to learn from each of the Dance Bites performances in a workshop led by the presenting artist or artists. Alongside the workshop, students experience a matinee performance and post-show Q&A with the artistic team. The workshops are for dance students of all abilities, from beginner to advanced. Workshops can be tailored to your students’ level.
Australian Tap Dance Company
THE TAP AFFECT
Join us for the inaugural work from this dynamic, newly founded company. Celebrating Australian tap dancers inspirations, the artists will delve into their emotional connection to the artform.
Led by the founders of the Australian Tap Dance Company, the workshop will provide your students a unique opportunity to learn a piece from show and some technical exercises. With a firm belief in the importance of learning the roots of tap dance, the company will also conduct a discussion about the lesser known innovators in the history of tap, whilst referring to online video material. Don’t forget to bring your tap shoes or sneakers, no need to be a tapper!
Compañía Pepa Molina
Flamenco dance artist Pepa Molina (Bush Bailando – 2016 Dance Australia’s Critic’s Choice for Most Interesting Artist) returns to Riverside with her latest work exploring the intricacies, superstitions and clichés in Flamenco’s past and present.
The workshop will introduce your students to the art of Flamenco and its cultural history. They will also learn how Flamenco music, song and dance relate to each other through demonstrations of various Flamenco instruments and techniques used in the show including castañuelas (castanets) and Flamenco dance (Baile).
Featuring an exceptional all female Australian cast and creative team directed by Helpmann Award Winner Sara Black, Double Beat explores the aural and physical responses the heart and pulse present in differing emotional and physical states.
Sara Black and her team will introduce students to the process of making Double Beat, an exploration of our constant heartbeat and pulse in a close partnership of sound and movement. The workshop will begin with a high-energy contemporary warm up. Your students will then have the opportunity to engage in an introduction to Heart Rhythm Meditation practice. This experience will be used to guide an open exploration into improvisation tasks, operating from internal and external connections to the rhythm of the pulse and heart.
