Siren Theatre Co. & Sydney Festival present
Who, among equals, is the most equal? Can love level the playing field? H.M.S. Pinafore playfully sends up a class-obsessed society with the story of a feisty flower of British maidenhood who falls for Ralph Rackstraw, a handsome sailor with a surprising secret.
Played with a sly wink to changing social mores and a nod to queer culture, this gender-fluid take on love and duty is anything but Victorian. Hold on tight as a cast of 12 triple threats give the already topsy-turvy world of Gilbert and Sullivan a hilarious, sexy and sequin-spangled spin.
Directed by Kate Gaul and first seen at the Hayes Theatre in 2019, this critically acclaimed chamber production of a light opera masterpiece hits the refresh button on its song-strewn mockery of class, British exceptionalism and the rise of unqualified people to positions of power.
