This dynamic cross-cultural theatrical production seamlessly blends the thunderous drumming of Taikoz and the intricate beauty of classical Indian dance movements of Lingalayam.
Inspired by the forces of nature, earth (Chi) and water (Udaka), these companies break new ground in their sensual representation of respective Australian-Japanese and Indian practices. Delicate and dramatic, Chi Udaka unites the taiko drums, shakuhachi flute of Riley Lee, cello and classical Indian vocals with Bharatha Natyam and Kuchipudi dance styles.
“Lingalayam’s six dancers move with speed and consistency, maintaining their precision and vivacity in choreography that often projects them as a vivid single entity. The Taikoz drummers are so closely integrated in their tightly choreographed drumming that their movement makes them as good to watch as listen to.” – Jill Sykes, Sydney Morning Herald
