EDUCATION WORKSHOP

The Body as a Storyteller – High School Student Workshop

Full of play and physical exploration, The Body as Storyteller illuminates the superpowers of mime as a storytelling medium.

Join NYC-based artists from Broken Box Mime Theater in a joyfully rigorous activation of body language. Games and exercises designed to promote collaborative creation will guide a process for staging the challenging-to-stage. With the body as storyteller, we can perform cinematic scale shifts and jump cuts, evoke space operas and underwater action, reveal the invisible, and shift seamlessly between grounded naturalism to poetic image collage. Workshop participants will take away mime technique, tools for devising physical theatre, and innovative body-centric performance skill for language-driven plays.

GENERAL PUBLIC WORKSHOP

Teaching Without Words: Non-Speaking Teaching Techniques in Practice

What happens when we remove spoken language from our teaching practice? Who can it include, and how does it shift our mindset?

In this session, we will experiment with games and exercises taught without language, and then dive into the theory behind the practice. Wordless teaching methods can increase access, enhance impact, and help to build the foundation of a joyful, collaborative group culture.

All are welcome to join: classroom teachers, teaching artists, community organisers, speech pathologists, artists, administrators, and everyone in between.
