AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE

Areej, a pregnant, young Saudi widow, will endure anything to protect her unborn child. To survive as a single parent she takes in a drug dealer.

Acclaimed Saudi filmmaker Ahd directs herself in the title role. This bold story is about a woman defying social custom and trying to establish a friendship with a man in a community that insists on gender segregation.

BIO: AHD

Saudi actress and film-maker Ahd was the first Saudi woman to study acting and film-making in the United States. The Shoemaker, her directorial debut, won multiple awards from festivals worldwide. She won the Golden Gate Award for Best Actress in San Francisco for her role in Razn. Ahd was recently a jury member for the Emirates film competition in Abu Dhabi. Ahd also stars in the first feature film from Saudi Arabia, WADJDA.
