Nautanki Theatre is celebrating its long-time collaborator, television legend Uzma Gillani, with a special programme.

The programme will commence with an exclusive screening of Uzma Gillani’s renowned and critically acclaimed telefilm, “Dhoop Jali.”

This will be followed by a live theatrical, semi-biographical short play, ‘Umeed ka Safar’, concluding with an in-depth, unscripted panel discussion featuring Uzma Gillani.

About Dhoop Jali

Duration: 47 Minutes
Written By: Bano Qudsia
Directed By: Nusrat Thakur
Cast: Uzma Gillani, Abid Ali, Firdaus Jamal, Bindiya, Mehboob Alam

Uzma Gillani’s protagonist, Chandan in “Dhoop Jali” explores the complexities of love, showing how it can both heal and hurt. About women who are expected to bend but refuse to break. And about finding light, even after being burned.

Life was never simple for Chandan, surviving despite tough physical labour and poverty. When she married Goriya, she thought love might be enough. It wasn’t. He saw her brother’s illness as a chance to gain, not something to grieve over. That betrayal cracked something deep inside her.

“Dhoop Jali” is not just a story of love lost and found, but a meditation on resilience. It is an elegy for those who love bravely, and a mirror held up to the cruelties we cloak in the name of tradition.
