‘Ubuntu’ means humanity in the Xhosa language of South Africa: “I am because we are.”. In this short documentary, a group of school children defy their teachers instructions to compete, demonstrating a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.

A wooden doll who desperately wants to fit in makes an ill-fated wish upon a star, sparking a journey of self discovery. Her desire to blend in with her peers leads her down a harmful path, challenging her perspective of both who she is and where she belongs.

Daouda is a father from Senegal living with his family in France. His eldest son Malik wants to marry Mariama, so a family meeting is organised around a meal. However, Daouda discovers to his dismay that the two families are from two vastly different social castes: he is a Griot, while Mariana’s family is noble.

The journey of African men reconnecting with their ancestral roots, told through vivid storytelling and evocative cinematography. ‘Alkebulan’ explores the multifaceted perspectives through which Black men are perceived, from the lens of history, cultural identity, and contemporary society, navigating the complexities of their experiences, struggles, and triumphs.
