About Scented Cinema

Scented Cinema
Jas Brooks (Snivure) and Tammy Burnstock (Scented Storytelling) are seasoned collaborators with a shared enthusiasm for the power of scent in cinema. Together, they boast an impressive portfolio of co-produced scent-infused projects, most recently two participatory events for Midsumma, Melbourne. Beyond their creative work, Jas and Tammy’s collaboration extends to the preservation of the last known Smell-O-Vision! system from 1960, further underscoring their dedication to the legacy and future of scented cinema.

Jas Brooks
Jas Brooks (they/them) is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Chicago and an independent media archaeologist. Their doctoral research focuses on engineering devices that chemically stimulate and manipulate the human senses to integrate smell, taste, and temperature into our digital interactions. Jas is the recipient of the 2024 Sadakichi Award for Experimental Use of Scent at the prestigious Art and Olfaction Awards, an internationally recognized accolade for scented media and art. Jas independently delves into media archaeology with a specific interest in dispelling misconceptions around historical scent technologies and associated media from the 20th century onwards. They are uncovering a rich history of over 120 scented film exhibitions, dating back to 1910. This exploration includes revisiting Behind the Great Wall in AromaRama (1959), preserving the last known Smell-O-Vision! system and the Scent of Mystery fragrance (1960), Website: https://jasbrooks.net

Tammy Burnstock
Tammy Burnstock is a writer, director, and event producer with a unique specialisation in scented immersive experiences. Her career spans several facets of the screen-based industry, highlighted by 12 years in the Children’s department at the ABC.
