The award-winning cast and crew of Where I’m From the play will be performing their show one last time to launch this year’s SCCALA EOY Graduation showcase.

SCCALA Inc (known as the Sāmoan Community Culture Arts & Language Association Incorporated) vision statement is ‘to engage, educate and perpetuate Aganu’u Fa’asamoa (Sāmoan culture), Arts and Values that enables a safe, healthy and harmonious multicultural environment.’

For the first time, SCCALA will host their end-of-year graduation/showcase in partnership with local Sāmoan author, Gabriel Faatau’uu-Satiu, of Where I’m From the children’s book.

Where I’m From – is a love letter written for AJ, Jaiyana, Sienna, Savannah, and Ezekiel—first-generation Australian, Sāmoan, Tongan, and Niuēan children – a reminder to remember who they are and where they come from. Where I’m From is used in weekly lessons as a resource to encourage SCCALA students to write using the Sāmoan language.

Where I’m From inspired the stageplay of the same name by Satiu Studios winning Best Emerging Producer with Sydney Fringe Festival in 2024 and the Open Arts Category from the NSW Council for Pacific Communities.

Where I’m From follows the journey of a tama’ita’i who fears performing a taualuga – a traditional dance & one of her duties bestowed upon her as the daughter of a high chief. To conjure up courage, she seeks advice from her friendship circle, a village of ride-or-die besties from different parts of the Moana.

Where I’m From explores music and dance from island nations across the Polynesian, Melanesian and Micronesian regions.
