About Phyu Phyu

Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein is a celebrated Burmese singer, songwriter, and performer, exiled and now residing in France. She has been active in her music career since 2003 and is known for her mezzo-soprano voice and dynamic stage presence. She has faced significant challenges due to her outspoken opposition to the Burmese military junta, leading to her exile​.

Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein has solidified her status as one of Myanmar’s most influential and respected artists over her twenty-year career. She has released numerous solo albums that have topped charts and resonated deeply with fans worldwide. Notably, her discography includes critically acclaimed albums such as ‘Thou Shalt be Remembered,’ which tackles themes of political oppression and hope for democratic freedoms.

Beyond her musical success, Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein has been a prominent figure on the international stage, representing Myanmar in global music festivals and events. Her performances have earned her a reputation for delivering powerful messages through music, which have been instrumental in raising awareness about Myanmar’s political struggles.
