Agal Dance Company champions the form of Bharathanatyam, a South Indian movement language, in Australia, through presenting ensemble work that innovates within the paradigms of the art. They utilise the vocabulary to critically think about the world and the current issues faced as Australians of a South Asian background whilst sharing unique personal stories of diaspora and bringing Bharathanatyam into the 'now'. In accordance with the company's mission for employing dance as a means for transformational change and community empowerment, they are proudly supported by the auspices of Vanni Hope in this venture. Agal was established in August 2018 and is primarily based in Sydney. The company aims to preserve the integrity of the tradition, playfully and professionally.
