City of Parramatta presents
YUIN BYALLA
(Truth Talking) for National Reconciliation Week
Yuin Byalla ‘truth talking’ is bringing together four leading First Nations voices who actively strengthen their communities. These community leaders embody this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme “Be Brave. Make Change”.
Award-winning journalist and presenter Rachael Hocking will moderate the guest panel including Vanessa Turnbull-Roberts (human rights activist and community advocate), Luke Currie-Richardson (storyteller, artist and dancer in Muggera) and Shanaya Donovan (Dharug youth, activist and dancer in Jannawi Dance Clan).
From continuing the work on advocating for our sovereign rights, to ensuring we connect and shine in the arts, to educating the community on language and culture, and telling our truths in the media. These voices do the ‘truth talking’ that ensures our stories are being heard. They are paving the way for the future generations.
At Yuin Byalla our guest panel, led by IndigenousX, will delve into the ongoing journey of reconciliation. Generations of Australians have fought hard for meaningful change but there is more work to be done. Future gains are likely to take just as much, if not more, effort.
Hear from these experts to find out what it will take to “Be Brave. Make Change”.
With special performances by Muggera and Jannawi Dance Clan
Ticket sales will be donated to IndigenousX, a 100% Indigenous-owned and operated media, consultancy, and training organisation. IndigenousX believes in the principles of self-determination and works to affect change by upholding Indigenous knowledge, voices and ways of being.
