Presented by Nautanki Theatre, Orko by Saurabh Bhattacharya is an appropriation of Shakespeare’s tragedy-Othello.
After almost 3 decades of hard work in Australia, Orko Sanyal has everything he ever dreamed of, a comfortable life and a thriving chain of restaurants – ORKO’s bearing his name. Yet on a long-overdue trip to his hometown, Calcutta in India, fate takes an unexpected turn.
At a friend’s gathering, Orko meets Damini – young, luminous, and with a voice that seems to weave magic in the air. Against his own cautious nature and mindful of the years between them, Orko is caught off guard when Damini returns his interest. A brief, intoxicating courtship ends in marriage, and the couple return to Sydney, leaving friends astonished, and Orko’s close confidant, Vish Chatterjee, increasingly unsettled by the depth of Orko’s devotion.
Beneath the surface, unspoken tensions begin to stir.
