A Merrigong Theatre Company Production in association with the Disability Trust and Riverside Theatres present
TRASH TALK
By the Strangeways Performance Ensemble
“A truly unique show…funny and intelligent… a tribute to the success that strong and inclusive collaborations deliver.” – Sydney Arts Guide (For The Man Who Dreamt The Stars)
Justice in the workplace is at stake – so let’s get ready to RUMBLE!
Strangeways Ensemble, a permanent ensemble at Merrigong Theatre Company of seven professional actors perceived to have intellectual disability, brings us their stunning new work.
Set in a fictional workplace – the recycling depot of an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) Trash Talk draws inspiration from the real-life 2018 review of award wages for people working in commercial businesses, and the personal impact that it had on members of the cast.
With a hugely entertaining blend of humour, physical theatre and video projection, framed within the hyper reality of a professional wrestling tournament, Trash Talk’s gladiatorial approach to human rights and our universal desire for respect and dignity reaffirms the right to work as fundamental human existence.
FYI this production contains strong language, simulated physical violence, smoke haze and loud noises. Recommended for ages 12+
