Sport for Jove presents
By Arthur Miller

Sport for Jove’s critically-acclaimed production directed by Damien Ryan returns to its original home at the site specific, heritage-listed Bella Vista Farm in Sydney’s west.

This extraordinary visual and temporal experience allows you to experience Salem, through the use of the 200-year-old Sydney estate which includes a house, forest grounds and haunted sheds.

Featuring an exceptional cast, don’t miss this powerful introduction to the play that resonates with us as much as it did in the McCarthyist era when Miller wrote it.

Teachers, further enhance your student’s experience by adding The Crucible HSC Symposium to your booking! See the ‘HSC Symposium’ tab for full details.

FYI This production contains smoke haze. There will be bench seating for this production.

Sport for Jove Theatre Company presents

Further enhance your student’s experience by adding The Crucible HSC Symposium to your booking!

Sport for Jove’s HSC Symposiums are essential opportunities to deepen your students’ practical understanding of HSC texts.

Presented as a lecture interspersed with scene work and expert commentary from Sport for Jove’s Artistic Director Damien Ryan and his team, these symposiums will help you and your students explore famous scenes and speeches from The Crucible in multiple ways, open up diverse critical readings, and unlock language and character. You will also get the opportunity to hear professional actors discuss the ambiguities and challenges of the play, and answer student questions.

These symposiums are a complete, hands-on experience of the plays’ action and narrative. Sport for Jove extracts the key ingredients and critical thinking required to write on The Crucible under exam conditions. Every aspect of the work is geared towards the curriculum and the specific needs of students studying these plays.

Detailed student notes are also offered with the symposiums. We recommend that you bring your lunch to eat between the performance and symposium.

“…incredibly valuable.” – Megan Duong, English and Languages Coordinator, Regents Park Christian School

“My students are now very enthusiastic to commence their study of Hamlet. They loved the symposium: the actors, their performances and your insights.” – Deb McWatters, English Teacher, Penrith Christian School

“I couldn’t recommend them more highly.” – Lindy, Head Teacher English, Castle Hill High School

“This is a great work of theatre, brilliantly realised in what is Ryan’s finest production in a long line of exceptional work. It should not be missed. He has cast with precision, and then extracted inspired performances that carefully ramp up the tension, until the sadness of the predicament is overwhelming. With this production Ryan slices to the heart of Arthur Miller’s masterpiece, arguably the greatest American play of all.” – Sydney Morning Herald

“It’s unlike any production of The Crucible you’ve ever seen before. Played out in the round in the picturesque, rough-hewn interior of Mrs Elizabeth MacArthur’s historic barn in the outer north-west of Sydney, the villagers of 1690s Salem, Massachusetts are brought to immediate and vivid life. So many parallels and such richness in the play, the performances and the production. It is mesmerising, harrowing and will stay in your mind and heart long after it’s over.” – StageNoise
