Susheela Raman and Band

Venue Riverside Theatre
Dates 10 November 2012

In a special treat for world music fans, multi-award winning vocalist Susheela Raman brings her versatile voice and incandescent stage presence to Sydney.

Now a Tamil Londoner who spent her early school years in Sydney’s Strathfield, Susheela Raman has enraptured countless listeners with her wildly original songs and interpretations of the music from her Indian heritage as well as eccentric western originals such as Captain Beefheart. Fresh from a recent sold out 5-star review concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall that had audiences dancing in the aisles, this passionate performer and her band will light up the Parramatta Riverside Theatre stage with their raw energy and electrifying blend of South Asian music and soulful blues.

Her band includes Rajasthani vocalist Kutle Khan, mulit-percussionist Aref Durvesh and guitar virtuoso Sam Mills.

“…wildly original, passionate and dangerous… Jimi Hendrix would have been delighted.” The Guardian, UK

“…a one-woman tour of South Asian music, exploring Carnatic devotional music, Rajasthani folk song and her own Tamil heritage.” Financial Times, UK
