Riverside presents Arena Theatre Company’s
When eleven-year-old Juniper May receives a petition signed by her entire class stating that she is ‘the most hated person in the school’ her life is thrown into a complete meltdown. Finally, after exhausting all other avenues her parents resort to the only thing they have left, a giant singing robot.
Based on a true story, Robot Song illustrates the profound, transformative nature of creativity that when combined with unconditional love, becomes an unstoppable force. For Juniper, it opens doors into places she never knew existed allowing her to be defined on her own terms for the first time.
This deeply personal story shares an honest, intensely funny and often unconventional window into writer/director Jolyon James’ experience parenting a child on the Autism Spectrum.
Full of hope, cutting edge digital technology, animatronics and a beautiful, original musical score, this poignant and compelling production is for any child who has ever felt isolated or pushed to the margins.

From the Program Coordinator…
It’s not often a show like this comes along, where the story gets to the heart of what many young people experience at some point in their lifetime. This musical theatre piece displays the creative use of drama conventions and uses the latest technology in production elements, including animatronics. Robot Song is engaging, moving, awe-inspiring and a perfect way to demonstrate the power of live theatre as a tool for telling important stories and promoting social change.
