A joyous circus experience that explores the great beauty found in the smallest things

Come and view life through Ethan’s eyes in a joyous, poetic circus experience that explores the great beauty found in the smallest things.

Ethan Hugh was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at four years of age. Now twelve, he understands the world through touch and takes in his surroundings with the pads of his fingers and the tips of his toes. His mother described stepping into his world as “the joy of walking through shafts of colour and light; a dazzling kaleidoscope”. She then wrote a book detailing their experiences together, inspiring the creation of Kaleidoscope.

On stage, Ethan is joined by five circus performers and together they explore the colour, chaos and incredible beauty of his world through acrobatics, slapstick, music, movement and vibrant video projections.

Select performances throughout the year are provided as relaxed performances. These are sensory friendly performances where the perceived ‘rules’ of theatre are modified to allow patrons with Autism and other specific needs to enjoy the performance in a safe and welcoming environment.

Modifications will differ depending on the show, but can include:

  • The house lights being dimmed, but not turned all the way down;
  • The understanding that patrons may come and go from the theatre as needed;
  • Elements of the show that might include loud noises or sudden bright lights being toned down or removed.

All performances of Kaleidoscope will be relaxed performances.
