In his only Australian children’s event, the world’s biggest selling author James Patterson will take the stage in an interactive literary show.

James is the world’s bestselling author for a reason – he knows how to write stories people love!

With a workshop on How To Supercharge Your Writing by Tristan Bancks and live illustrations by Martin Chatterton, James Patterson Live will give your students a boost of bookish energy.

This free event is perfect for students in Years 3 – 6.

STEP 1. Download & Complete Booking Form

All bookings require a completed Booking Form. Risk assessments and education support materials (where provided) are available online.

STEP 2. Send your Booking Form to Us

STEP 3. Riverside will Confirm your Booking

You can request changes to student numbers up to 4 weeks prior to the performance.

STEP 4. Final Information Sent to Schools

A letter of confirmation will be issued instead of individual tickets if you attending a performance that has been allocated as a schools matinee. For other general public performances, you will be issued with tickets which you will be required to collect from Box Office before the performance. Prior to your visit, we will send you detailed information via email to ensure you have a hassle-free excursion. This will include updating you on any possible changes to times or more detailed information as it emerges from the rehearsal process. Please ensure you have given a valid email address on your booking form.

STEP 5. Attend and Enjoy!

Seating at schools performances is general admission and schools will be asked to enter the theatre as a group. We advise arriving at the theatre approximately 30 mins prior to your performance.

Terms and Conditions

The following Terms and Conditions apply for each Riverside Education performance booking:

  • Changes to student numbers must be in writing and no later than school 4 weeks prior to the performance;
  • Any changes to student numbers after this time are at the discretion of Riverside and subject to availability;
  • The booking is made on behalf of the school

James Patterson is the author of bestselling kids’ series Middle School, Treasure Hunters and iFunny. He is passionate about encouraging a love of reading in children all over the world.


A writer and illustrator, Martin’s children’s books are as hilarious as they are fast paced. Martin is the co-author of Middle School: Rafe’s Aussie Adventure and the Mort series.


Tristan Bancks is the author of a number of books for kids and teens, with My Life and Other Massive Mistakes being his latest book.

10.00 am Get animated with Martin Chatterton

See award-winning illustrator Martin Chatterton in action as he brings to life characters from Middle School: Rafe’s Aussie Adventure, which he co-authored with James Patterson. This is a great session to get even non-readers hooked on books.

10.30 am James Patterson LIVE

In his only children’s event in Australia, James will share his stories about why he loves writing, reading and his Middle School series, the latest of which is set in Australia. Martin Chatterton will illustrate live on stage as James talks.

11.00 am Question time with James Patterson

Have you ever wondered how authors beat writer’s block, or what they eat for lunch to power their brains? Now’s your chance to ask. James will answer questions which students can write before the event starts.

11.15 am Supercharge your writing with Tristan Bancks

With a week until NAPLAN, this is the perfect session for students to learn writing tips and tricks from expert Tristan Bancks.

11.45 am Book signings
