Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia Presents
FAVOURITE FOLK SONGS OF THE 20TH AND 21ST CENTURIES
The Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia (ROMCA) presents a folk song concert featuring new 4-5 part harmony musical arrangements of some of the best Russian, Ukrainian and English folk songs.
ROMCA was officially formed in Sydney, Australia in 2019 by Nektary Kotlaroff, the choir’s conductor. ROMCA is an accapella male choir made up of 20 professionally trained choristers from across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne who sing both Russian Orthodox choral music and also folk songs of Russian and Slavic origin. The choristers of ROMCA were all born in Australia and are second to fourth generation immigrants of predominantly Russian background.
ROMCA has toured both nationally and internationally with the most recent tour being to New York, USA in December 2019. With the onset of Covid, ROMCA began producing virtual videos and uploading them to social media platforms. In June 2020, ROMCA was invited to participate virtually in the Moscow Multicultural Music Festival – an international music festival with choirs participating from around the world. ROMCA won the A Grade category and were awarded the Grand Prix. In April 2021, ROMCA recorded and released its first album ‘The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom’ on all digital platforms.
ROMCA’s performance at Riverside will be the first performance in two years and is expected to sell out quickly.
