The creators of Children are Stinky bring you an all new, action-packed, super exciting circus spectacular. Brass Monkeys celebrates kids who march to the beat of their own drum. Bursting with high calibre acrobatics, a ton of comedy, live music and high flying tricks, this show is perfect for little kids and grown ups who like a big brass belly laugh!
Performed by powerhouse duo Kyle Raftery and April Dawson (Lunar Circus, Circus Oz) and directed by Malia Walsh (Circus Trick Tease), this trio of artists are famous for combining circus skills of epic proportion and comedy for all ages.

Riverside Theatres is registered with the NSW Government as a COVID Safe venue. Our COVID Safe plan was developed in line with federal and state government health guidelines, and following consultation with Live Performance Australia, other NSW venues, and various government bodies, on enhanced health, hygiene and safety measures. KYLE RAFTERY – Cast
Kyle trained at the National Institute of Circus Arts, graduating in 2005 with a full final-year scholarship. He has established his own successful freelance business as a circus artist. He is one half of performing duo Two Up Circus, founded the Little Red Trapeze Company, plays Jason in the multi-award winning children’s show ‘Children are Stinky’ and has worked for Circus Ozin ‘But wait, there’s more’, ‘Twenty-Sixteen’ and ‘Rock Bang’. Credits include: Underbelly Festival (UK), Hoopla Festival (Darling Harbour), P&O Cruises, Ben 10Live Stage Show (Malaysia), ACT 3 International(Singapore), Lunar Circus (WA), Melbourne Circus Festival, Western Australian Circus Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, International Circus Festival of Cambodia, La Mama for Kids, Fun4Kids Festival, Roola Boola Festival, Cirque du Monde(Singapore), and This SideUp acrobatics. Kyle also has worked as a teacher and/or rigger at Circus Oz, NICA, The Circus Spot, Hip Cat Circus, CircArts Geelong and The Fly Factory. Kyle also loves making coffee, scuba diving and playing golf.
APRIL DAWSON – Cast
Growing up in Busselton, Western Australia, April started dancing and gymnastics from an early age. She was spotted performing contortion on the street at a local festival and two weeks later joined Lunar Circus, touring WA, NT and South-East Asia. Highly-skilled in theatrical dance and acrobatics April soon added juggling, clown, hula hoop, flying trapeze and aerial hoop to her bag of tricks. April’s credits include P&O Cruises, Sydney International Motor Show, Village Roadshow, Red Earth Arts Festival and The West Australian Circus Festival. She has spent the last three years working full time for Circus Oz, performing all over Australia and internationally. April is also one half of Two Up Circus, plays the role of ‘Kylie’ in the hit children show ‘Children Are Stinky’ and is highly regarded as a costume designer/maker under her own business ‘Glitter Fart Productions’.
MALIA WALSH – Founder, Director, Producer and Performer
Spinning onto the stage since childhood, Malia trained in classical ballet under Marin Rubinstein and Audrey Nicholls till 14 years old, Malia turned to training circus and physical theatre training under Clare Bartholomew, Dr Brown, Roman Paska, Puda Paiva, LauraSheedy. After years of performing around Australia, Malia formed aduo act with Pyroptix and toured Asia(2005-2007). She then co-founded the award winning Circus Trick Tease in 2008 and has directed many shows such Children Are Stinky, Straya and Can’t Face, Werk It and Brass Monkeys. The company has gone on to receive 9 awards and 5 star reviews on multiple productions. Malia has also collaborated with a range of companies including Über Lingua for the opening of the Sydney and Darwin International Festivals, Men of Steel for RAV, Korea and Malthouse seasons, Circus Quirkus and Strut & Fret for Circus Soup and Kids Comedy Gala. Most recently she directed the award winning Neon for Circus Oz.
Brass Monkeys is a highly entertaining, charming and wacky show for kids, but us adults will appreciate the sheer talent and complexities of the tricks and tongue in cheek comedy aimed purely at the older crowd – Theatre Travels 2020
