André Rieu’s 2015 Maastricht Concert

Venue Raffertys Theatre
Dates 25 July 2015

Affectionately known as “The King of Waltz”, André performs a series of concerts in his home town of Maastricht, in The Netherlands every year. The concerts are performed in front of thousands of fans and are set amongst the beautiful medieval backdrop of his beautiful home town of Maastricht. As always, André is joined by his famous Johann Strauss Orchestra, his sopranos, tenors and some very special guests. The Maastricht concerts are André’s most popular concerts of the year and 2015 is shaping up to be his biggest and most spectacular concert ever to be screened in cinemas.

The Maastricht concerts are so special and so unique with the atmosphere in the town square heightened by both the enormous crowds and the many restaurants lining the square, who all take part in this magnificent event.

When asked if André had a message for his fans around the world, he said: “I am so delighted that my hometown Maastricht concert will once again be coming to cinemas in July! It’s going to be an incredible evening – and I can promise you it will be a musical night to remember. If you can’t join us in Maastricht, we will come to you, in your local cinema.”

As always, CinemaLive’s programme will feature a host, who will introduce the show as well as conduct an interview with André the moment he steps off stage, exclusively for cinema audiences.

The satellite delivered concert is recorded several days prior to the cinema screening, during André Rieu’s 2015 Maastricht Concert summer season.

Spoken parts in English and Dutch with some English subtitles supplied.

Mirusia Louwerse

Thirty year-old Brisbane-born soprano MIRUSIA LOUWERSE, whom André Rieu calls ‘The Angel of Australia’, will be a guest performer at André Rieu’s 2015 Maastricht Concert.

Here is Mirusia performing at André’s 2013 Maastricht Concert. She first performed in Rieu’s summer concert in 2007 and has every year since, except 2012.

Mirusia was the youngest ever recipient of the prestigious Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award in 2007 aged 21 and her career has flourished since then. She lives between Maastricht and Brisbane. She is fluent in Dutch – the names ‘Louwerse’ & ‘Mirusia’ are Dutch & Polish respectively. She has over 12 million hits on YouTube for her performance of Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’. CinemaLive says “she is to the Netherlands what Tina Arena is to France”….

Gary Bennett

Tasmanian-born tenor GARY BENNETT will be a guest performer at André Rieu’s 2015 Maastricht Concert.

Born in Launceston, Gary grew up in Devonport and studied and worked in Hobart (physics and mathematics at the University of Tasmania) before moving to London to further his singing studies. During this time he won a scholarship to the National Opera Studio.

After auditioning for the late Sir John Pritchard he moved to Germany to join the Cologne Opera Studio.

In 2005 he was engaged by André Rieu and has been touring the world with him since then as one of the three Platin Tenors, with appearances in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Holland, USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, South Africa and Australia.

Gary also has a strong connection to Queensland as his family moved there in 1972. Gary’s mother lives in Toowoomba, as does his sister, with her husband and two sons – one of whom, Grant Norman, is Gary’s godson (who incidentally has captained the Australian under 19s volleyball team). Gary’s father lives in Mooloolaba and his youngest brother Peter has just moved back to Buderim after seven years as production manager of Tassal in Hobart.

Gary lives in West Germany.
