LOLA MONTEZ IN CONCERT

THE LEGENDARY – AND LOST – AUSTRALIAN MUSICAL RETURNS TO THE STAGE FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY!

Don’t miss the once-in-a-lifetime concert event this June to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the iconic Australian musical, Lola Montez. Based on the fascinating true story of the infamous Irish-born Spanish dancer Lola Montez and her visit to Ballarat in 1856, a visit that has become legend. The musical centres around Lola’s unforgettable impact on everyone she came across through her spellbinding dance, unashamed sensuality and fierce independence. Lola’s famous lovers included Alexandre Dumas, Franz Liszt and King Ludwig of Bavaria.

The concert evening will boast an extraordinary cast lead by Helpmann nominee Debora Krizak (Anything Goes, Sweet Charity) as Lola, with Peter Cousens (Les Miserables, London West End’s The Phantom of the Opera), Scott Irwin (Beauty & the Beast, Hairspray), and Red Symons (Skyhooks, Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday).

Originally staged in 1958 to rave reviews, hit songs that outsold Elvis and a TV broadcast, a highlight of the show is Lola’s world famous ‘Spider Dance’ which provoked a furore wherever she performed it. It has now been reimagined by iconic Australian choreographer Paul Mercurio (Strictly Ballroom, Dancing With the Stars). Directed by Stephen Helper (Broadway’s Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Fiddler on the Roof), Lola Montez features a 10-piece orchestra led by musical director Craig Renshaw.

Date & Time: Saturday June 2 at 8pm
