Riverside presents Siren Theatre Co
By Noëlle Janaszweska
Performed by Jane Phegan

When the world map was full of gaps, the Amazon topped the list of places unknown to western explorers. In 2020 are there any ‘unknowns’ left? On a trip to the Amazon, the writer ponders this and other questions as she struggles to deal with her father’s journey through Parkinson’s disease towards what is perhaps our last great unknown.

Sometimes sad and confronting Good With Maps is also funny and thoughtful, and celebrates the power of reading and literature to transport us to places both real and  imagined.

Noëlle’s unfailing ability to ignite universal emotions and laughter in all of us while gloriously revealing her own exquisite uniqueness is one of this piece’s great joys.

Suitable for ages 13+

“Every element in this production is in step and working together to create this fascinating and ultimately heartbreaking piece of theatre.” Daily Review, Sydney

“Interwoven with exploration and adventure is a tale that is closer to the heart. She delves into the world of humanity and its complex and rugged relationships. On her bravest exploration Janaczewska embarks on a journey into unfamiliar grounds and she shares with us her deep and profound discoveries of sadness, humour and the human heart.” Australian Stage

“Good With Maps is one of those rare and beautiful productions I dream about, where a fine writer has handed a text to a fine director who calls forth a great performance from a fine actor who inspires creatives around her to produce their best for the show.” Lisa Thatcher, Sydney

“Intelligent, lyrical and haunting.” Sydney Arts Guide

“A fine performance, delivered from the heart in a way that seems authentically autobiographical – 4 stars.” Edinburgh Guide

“This is a complex, deeply rewarding piece of theatre, one that balances cerebral exuberance with shattering emotional power – 4 stars.” The List Edinburgh

“Although the spotlight was on the solo actor, it was an ensemble of fine creative artists who made this work the complete heartfelt experience I love.” Chris Grady, Edinburgh
