The director of Jawbreaker delivers a coming-of-age comedy packed full of laughs, pop culture fun and glorious camp. When comic book-loving teen Tanner (Michael J Willett) is outed against his will as the only gay at his middle-American high school, his flamboyant best friend seethes with jealousy. The popular girls at school then fight it out to secure him as a ‘Gay Best Friend,’ which will assure one of them the prom queen crown.

With a cast including Rebecca Gayheart and Natasha Lyonne as the cat-loving school teacher jilted by her G.B.F., the stand out performance comes from Megan Mullaly (Will and Grace) whose portrayal of a mother bending over backwards to show acceptance of her gay son steals the show. The uber-cool soundtrack features Blur, Tegan & Sarah and more.

“Remixes ‘Clueless’, ‘Mean Girls’, and ‘Pretty in Pink’. The performances are entirely adept, with the endearingly farcical Willett and Roquemore’s drop-dead line deliveries particularly sharp.”  – Dennis Harvey, Variety

“A barrage of millennial wit, quippy one-liners and scathing takedowns, Northy’s script is a modern mirror of popular culture, paying homage to new-age teen classics… To that, Stein matches his vintage ’80s aesthetic: both colours and costumes jump off the screen.” – Benjamin Lindsay, The Hollywood Reporter
