Queer Screen’s Mardi Gras Film Festival

Ramin has landed in the Mexican port city of Veracruz, lost on his way to Europe after fleeing persecution in Iran. With a boyfriend back home, Ramin is desperate to return to Tehran, but with little money finds himself stuck in the transitory city.

In between learning Spanish and working menial jobs, he meets the enigmatic Guillermo, whose scarred body and tales of gang life belie the growing closeness between the two men. The second feature from Iranian filmmaker Badi Khoshnoudi, Fireflies is a quietly powerful film on finding your place of belonging.
