Schumann, Mozart and Chopin.
One of the most highly awarded young pianists to launch on the Australian concert platform, Ukraine-born Alexey Yemtsov is a superb artist. He won first prize in the first Horowitz International Piano Competition and the Prokofiev Competition in Donetsk. He has performed in London, New York and most major US cities, Israel, China, Russia and Ukraine. In Australia he has performed at the Sydney Festival Prom Concert, for former US President Bill Clinton and Dame Joan Sutherland. In November 2006 he will perform the Rachmaninov Concerto No 1 with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.
Alexey’s program includes works for the piano by three composers who were all virtuoso concert pianists. The Sonata KV310 was written in Paris in 1778. Schumann’s Kinderszenen pieces are reminiscences of childhood for adults. His Symphonic Etudes are regarded as one of his greatest works. Alexey will also play Chopin’sSonata No 2 Op 35 in B Flat Minor which contains his famous Funeral March.
