The weekly drama workshops offer strong skills-based experience including physical and vocal exercises, improvisation, creative problem solving, exercises in delivering a line, eye contact, emotions and emotional expression, basic stagecraft, and experience performing to a camera.
Working alongside professional artists, people with disability participate in a drama and movement workshop program designed to build self-confidence, promote wellbeing, and increase skills in self-expression, interaction, and performing.
Each workshop aims to:
- Embrace the contributions of each individual be it as small as a smile or as large as reciting all the lines from an episode of a tv show.
- Allow for the unique expression of each individual to influence the session and flourish in a supportive, positive and respectful setting.
- Open up the possibility of choice and decision making to give a greater sense of ownership over the workshop for participants.
- Respect all ideas and contribution.
Riverside’s Beyond the Square makes every effort to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. If participants require personal care or behavioural support to fully participate in the program, please provide your own specific support personnel. This is crucial to the successful running of these drama workshops.
