Riverside and Sport for Jove Theatre Company present
By William Shakespeare
After a captivating season in 2017, Sport for Jove’s exceptional production of The Tempest returns to Riverside’s stage.
One of Shakespeare’s greatest plays, The Tempest is a symphonic vision of forgiveness, discovery and self-discovery. Famous for its language, context, enchanting characters and breathtaking theatricality it is a reflection of the world’s most famous playwright at the height of his powers and at the end of his remarkable career.
On a distant island a man waits. Robbed of his position, power and wealth, his enemies have left him in isolation. But this is no ordinary man and no ordinary island. Prospero is a magician, able to control the very elements and bend nature to his will. When a sail appears on the horizon, he reaches out across the ocean to the ship that carries the men who wronged him. Creating a vast magical storm, he wrecks the ship and washes his enemies up on the shore. When they wake they find themselves lost on a fantastical island where nothing is as it seems.
Please note: This production contains haze and loud noises.

FROM THE PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Many of you will already know Sport for Jove and their reputation for producing stunning productions of classic texts, most often Shakespeare. We are thrilled to be bringing back this production along with the hugely popular HSC Symposium. I recommend that you see both if you can. The production will blow students away while the symposium will allow them insight into director Damien Ryan’s brilliant mind and his knack for knowing how to interpret the Bard’s work for a modern audience.
