The Sydney Sacred Music Festival  and Riverside Theatres presents

MuQAM RAK

For the first time in Australia, the UNESCO protected Uyghur song cycle, Muqam Rak, will be performed at the Riverside Theatres for the Sydney Sacred Music Festival 2018.

Bringing together two world renowned Uyghur performers and a new ensemble, this trans formative night of ancient culture and Sufi influenced sacred music from the Silk Road will feature Shohrat Tursun on Dutar (2 string long neck lute) and vocals and Tayir Imen on traditional percussion.

To bring the timeless Muqam Rak to life for this Australian premier, a 4-piece ensemble will also feature master musicians from the Silk Road. These world class musicians will be supported by traditional dancing by the Sydney Uyghur Dance Ensemble.
