A screening of the finalist films in the 2nd Indie Gems Student Film Competition followed by an announcement of the winners, each vying for a share in a fantastic prize pool. The Student Film Competition invites budding filmmakers from Western Sydney to create and submit a film with the theme ‘Community’.

Alone by Emilio Broodryk
This film is about a young adolescent boy is homeless and wanted by the police. The boys’ only hope is if someone finds his notebook.

Film School by Cabramatta Public School – Stage 3
Cabramatta Public School has a community of filmmakers. Film School shows the many different roles that students take while making a movie.

Community Z by Cabramatta Public School – Year 5
Cabramatta Public School is a peaceful and friendly school environment. However, the school is now overtaken by zombies.

The Hyper Tap Water Incident by Cabramatta Public School – Year 3
Students are informed not to drink the tap water. It makes you hyper. However, one boy decides to drink some.

Waiting by Dalia
This is a dramatisation, using real life testimonies of children in detention centres, sheding light on the reality and experiences of children in Australia behind barbed wire.
