MEET THE CURATOR – DR LAURA (AMARA) OSWEILER

Come meet Dr. Laura (Amara) Osweiler the artist curator behind the Contemporary Dance Program at Parramasala 2018. She will talk about developing the dance lineup, the festival’s new directions and negotiating the roles of artist and curator.

Dr. Laura (Amara) Osweiler is a choreographer, performer, scholar, teacher and producer. She has produced and co-produced numerous annual events including An Evening of Experimental Middle Eastern Dance (Los Angeles), X-MED Festival (Los Angeles and Austin) and the Austin Belly Dance Convention. Laura is also the General Manager at Critical Path. For fifteen years, Laura was the Director of Ya Helewa! Dance Company. Her solo, company and collaborative works have been presented at concerts, festivals and conventions internationally and on video. She holds a PhD in Dance History and Theory from University of California, Riverside and a BA in Music History and Literature and a certificate in Ethnomusicology from Florida State University.
