Ryan is a gay Chinese-American who’s done everything to distance himself from his heritage, and his migrant upbringing in New York City, resulting in him landing his ultra-hip and cool dream job of celebrity stylist. But as luck would have it, he’s assigned to a new client who turns out to be Ning, a closeted Chinese actor who demands a Chinese stylist and rejects Ryan’s ‘westernised’ approach to styling him. The clash of egos and opinions makes for a rocky start, but as the pair work together, they grow closer and come to understand one another in unexpected ways. Once Ryan discovers Ning’s repressed homosexuality, their friendship turns into an undeniably heated attraction. Faced with sudden strong feelings, they’re both made to question the real reasons they hide their true selves and what they’re willing to risk for a shot at true happiness. Can Ryan finally unite his past with his present? And can Ning let go of his fears of being found out for who he really is? A romantic dramedy, overflowing with charm, humility and warmth, Front Cover balances light-heartedness with authenticity in a mature, nuanced work.
