Parramasala 2015

A Spicy Celebration of Cultures

Featuring India Tourism Week

Friday 23 October – Sunday 25 October 2015
Parramatta & Harris Park

Music, dance, film and flavours come together in a celebration of cultures at Parramasala 2015.There’s a whole world to explore at this free event in the centre of Greater Sydney.

Parramasala will present the inaugural Tourism Week of India, with the India Tourism Pavillion showcasing performer workshops and Chai Tea Stall – meet performers, learn about their culture and find out more about the instruments and dance movements.

Join the Friday Opening Night Street Parade in Parramatta and get into the groove with a crowd singalong of “Mida Wawasi (Welcome)”. Colombian dance band Cumbiamuffin gets the party started and your body moving later in the evening.

Ease into your weekend with yoga, chanting and breakfast at Morning Masala on Saturday from 8am.

On Saturday night, the ladies take over the stage for Masala Divas at Parramatta with performers including Baby et Lulu and Sirens Big Band, or you can join the Flavours of the World Spice Market at Harris Park where Curry Puff Daddy will add some hip-hop heat on stage.

Wind down on Sunday afternoon by wandering the Masala Markets, learning about spice gardens, watching rice art take shape, joining a Bollywood dance flash mob and enjoying the sounds of Africa to India and everywhere in between.

Join us for a celebration of South Asian cinema from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand and our very own Australia at Cinema Thali in Raffertys Theatre. The festival will include the winner of the My Masala film competition celebrating young Australian short stories.

The photography exhibition Adorned will be staged in the foyer of Riverside Theatres. Adorned features photographs by Liam Benson in partnership with Parramatta Artist Studios and the WeAve Project which brings together women from across Parramatta’s diverse cultural community through creative workshops.
