Indie Gems

Lights. Camera. PARRAMATTA!

Thursday, 12th SEPTEMBER to Saturday, 14th September 2013

The fourth annual INDIE GEMS FILM FESTIVAL is back in 2013 bigger and brighter than ever. Once again we have a huge array of Australian and international independent cinema to excite, inspire and entertain you.

Opening Night kicks off with the Sydney premiere of Pharaoh Vs The Egyptians, a powerful and revealing documentary by Australian comedian Akmal Saleh, who will also introduce the film. Born in Egypt, Akmal returns to the country to explore how the people were able to overthrow a dictator in rule for over thirty years.

On the 14th September, join us for Gossip Nation – the first Nollywood (Nigerian Cinema) film made in Australia!

Gossip Nation follows the conflicts and dramas of a community of African immigrants and refugees that have settled in Blacktown, Sydney. Among them is Kemi, an unemployed Nigerian teen girl who loves to gossip. But when her gossip starts to weave its way through the community, Kemi learns that a few words can wreak havoc and turn her friends and family against each other forever.

“Exciting, fresh… and palpable. The best film to emerge from Western Sydney this year” – Indie Gems

Tickets are now on sale through Riverside Theatres, Parramatta. It’s sure to be a sell out so grab your tickets now!

This project has been supported by Parramatta City Council’s Community Grants Program.
