“There are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed In the same ways I do.”
Frida Kahlo

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the National Theatre of Parramatta’s first production.

Swallow plunges its audience into a modern life, where neighbours overhear one another’s lives but never exchange a word. Stef Smith’s writing is filled with delicate observations, inventiveness, empathy and wry humour.

The three women  inhabit a hostile world. Anna hasn’t left her flat in years; Sam emerges as a new self then comes to face with the most savage of prejudices and Rebecca’s world and dreams have fallen apart. Throughout, the play remains open to the possibilities of connection between individuals, however damaged. Swallow fearlessly goes to those dark places where individuals are precariously balanced at tipping point. Painful yet playful, poignant but uplifting ‘Who said smashing things up was a bad thing?

Hard hitting yet humorous. Swallow explores questions of identity, heartbreak and hope with vivid, poetic intensity.

Written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Stef Smith this new play received rave reviews for its world premiere season in Edinburgh in 2015. Directed by Kate Champion (former Artistic Director of Force Majeure). Swallow will fearlessly launch the adventurous, high quality aims of the National Theatre of Parramatta.

Please Note: This production contains some coarse language, partial nudity and adult themes
