OVERVIEW
Welcome to our third season where we explore voices and stories that talk about identity, belonging and family. Our plays speak of immigration, they speak of stolen identities and discovering strength from adversity, they speak to our history and our future. They speak of resilience and hope.
Along the way you can laugh and cry and be transported to other worlds. Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta proudly brings six Australian plays to our stages in 2018, with four world premieres from playwrights Steve Rodgers and Julian Larnach and Western Sydney artists Karen Therese and Aanisa Vylet.
In these stories we celebrate diversity, our place at the heart of Sydney and the people on our stages who reflect the cross section of society we see every day on our streets. We explore family relationships from two different perspectives of Stolen generations, with a return season of Jane Harrison’s classic Stolen and a new work about a Hungarian family Sleeplessness (Generation 3).
There’s also the relationship of mother and daughter in our double bill The Girl and The Woman (which we are thrilled to say has reached our stages via our Open Pitch sessions), the perfect family in Jesus wants me for a sunbeam and a brother and sister relationship in Flight Paths. We invite you to join us on our journey as we acknowledge the influence of place on our stories and Riverside continues to be somewhere people come together and share experiences.
