Sydney Festival returns to Parramatta with an exceptional program this Summer


Join Sydney Festival in Parramatta for a world-class program of events like no other this January. Their mix of circus, music, dance and theatre will keep you and the family entertained.

Catch the dazzling circus and acrobatics spectacle La Veritàor the raw celebration of hip-hop culture, Cypher. Meanwhile, Riverside’s Lennox Theatre plays host to this year’s Parramatta summer of music, with performances ranging from American West Coast funk to Icelandic electro-pop and Australian roots music melded with Indian rhythms.

La Verità
7 to 17 January

Swiss company Compagnia Finzi Pasca bring their mix of astonishing acts and fantastic visuals to Parramatta in La Verità. Combining circus, clowning, acrobatics, dance and music – with an extra serving of humour and heart – Compagnia Finzi Pasca let their imagination run wild in a thrilling experience that is sure to delight the whole family.

8 January

Two Icelandic electro-pop titans in a heart-thumping shakedown.

Maru Tarang
10 January

An exquisite fusion of Indian folk and Australian roots, featuring famed Australian guitarist Jeff Lang and tabla player Bobby Singh.

14 January

Are you ready for some seriously golden, breezy West Coast vibes? Enter, on a keytar-shaped sunbeam, Pasadena’s maverick funk hero, DaM-FunK (USA).

Birdman – Screening and Live Score
15 January

A true luminary in modern jazz, drummer and composer Antonio Sanchez performs his fervent solo drum soundtrack score live alongside the Oscar-winning film Birdman, in what is a largely improvised performance, just as it was for the film.

Matthew E. White
16 January

Matthew E. White’s luscious country soul sound is irresistible. On record, the Virginia songman matches his velvet croon to rock’n’roll, gospel and soul stylings to delicious effect.

Cosmic Cambodia
17 January

Blast off and rock out with The Cambodian Space Project in Cosmic Cambodia; a high-energy, sci-fi psych rock’n’roll take on a Phnom Penh karaoke bar.

Cypher
19 to 24 January

A raw celebration of hip-hop culture, Cypher is your chance to share the space with ultra-skilful (not to mention ultra-competitive) b*boys as they thrash it out.

To celebrate Cypher playing during Sydney Festival, Riverside is screening a Breaking on Film, a mini film festival. The exciting program includes Planet B-Boy (22 January), Shake the Dust (23 January) and Survival Tactics (24 January).
