Celebrating its 26th year in 2015, the Alliance Française French Film Festival is a highly anticipated and extremely popular event on the Australian cultural calendar. It is not only the biggest film festival in Australia; it is also the biggest festival of French films outside of France.
Each year the Festival curates a selection of the best contemporary French films. Blockbusters and independent films alike screen over eight weeks in eight cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Perth and Hobart. This year the Festival has extended its reach to western Sydney, adding Riverside at Parramatta to the number of participating localities.
A recognised vibrant, cultural hub, the Festival organisers are delighted to be able to showcase a selection of five French films to Riverside’s audiences. This line-up was chosen to represent a cross section of the 49 films featured throughout this year’s Festival. Screening at Riverside will be the Festival’s opening night film Gemma Bovery, two films hand-picked by Festival patrons and revered film critics Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton (3 Hearts, and Diplomacy), a Box Office smash-hit of 2014 in The Bélier Family, and, of course, a little bit of French romance with Chance Encounter.
Having entered its second quarter century, the Alliance Française French Film Festival proudly continues its international celebration of the best new cinema from France, and is excited to embark on a new collaboration with Riverside.
