Connecting Live and Digital Performance
What is Connect Studios?
Connect Studios is a project of Parramatta City Council’s Riverside Theatres and the City Culture, Tourism and Recreation Unit.
It is principally funded by Parramatta City Council and supported by a three year grant from Arts NSW.
Connect Studios is an incubator and education centre for contemporary performance practice, its styles and techniques. Connect Studios will engage with the past, the present and the future in the context of now.
Connect Studios provides subsidised workshop, rehearsal, tuition and production spaces on a casual and project basis to local and non-local contemporary performance artists and delivers on the development of local, sustainable regional performance practice.
Where is Connect Studios?
It is located on two upper levels of the Connection Arcade, on the corner of Church and Darcy Streets, Parramatta. It is easily accessible from the Parramatta Railway Station and the Transport Interchange. The new free Loop bus service stops close by. It is also easily accessed from Westfield Parramatta.
What is Connect Studios’ Primary Purpose?
Connect Studios provides a much needed rehearsal and workshop venue and facilities for emerging and established live and digital performance artists and organisations in western Sydney area, and for those interested in working in Parramatta and Sydney’s west.
Principally, Connect Studios is for the professional and career development of performance and associated artists who live in Parramatta and western Sydney or who have a interest and commitment in exploring performance in Sydney’s Greater West. By connecting performance artists and organisations with other artists, organisations, ideas, skills and styles of work, Connect Studios aims to promote new and interesting live and digital performance. It hopes to facilitate employment opportunities in performance in Parramatta and western Sydney by building capacity in the sector and by up-skilling current and potential performance artists.
What are Connect Studios’ Hiring Requirements?
Connect Studios comprises five studios of varying size. All studios are available on a project or casual basis subject to users meeting the creative and booking criteria and guidelines.
The studios may be used for rehearsals, workshops, classes, master classes, forums, reading, demonstrations, residencies and activities that develop the practice of live and digital performance and complementary art forms.
